The Broken Hearts Gallery is addictively charming, smart and sweet, capitalizing on a simple premise with authenticity and heart from its leads and supporting cast. Review

Christopher Nolan's latest globe-trotting sci-fi thriller Tenet is an unbalanced, albeit ambitious piece of work. Think Memento and Primer, only with a larger budget and broader strokes, occasionally striking that same mind-bending magic as Inception, but mostly leaning too hard on its visual flare and forced "event cinema" architecture that Nolan is known for. Sang-ho Yeon's Peninsula is a far cry from Train to Busan, failing to capture lighting in a bottle once again, instead suffering from general sequel tendencies, including more action and less story. The budget seems to have increased, but the charm and magic is all but lost. Review

Megan Fox is surprisingly the best part about Rogue, which balances action and suspense on a simple, yet effective premise. The CGI is questionable, but understandable, while the film's occasionally slow pacing holds it back from becoming something more memorable. Review

Josh Boone's The New Mutants is an interesting mess of mutant drama, not quite leaning into the horror elements enough, oddly bouncing back-and-forth in tone and execution. It's one of those films that you admire for swinging for the fences, despite it striking out almost immediately and in disastrous fashion. Review

Derrick Borte's Unhinged hits like a Mack truck with its foot hard on the gas, fueled by a Russell Crowe performance that's disturbing and full of inner-rage. This might not feel like the most appropriate movie to release theatrically right now, but the film will definitely shock you and keep your eyes glued to the screen. Review

Gregor Jordan's Dirt Music is beautifully shot, capturing the lush scenery of Australia in a way that provides for a gorgeous backdrop to a somewhat stalled romance that lacks a connection between its distant two leads, Kelly Macdonald and Garrett Hedlund. Review

Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman's Project Power is crazy fun, blending together slick action and a wild concept to make for a thrilling dose of adrenaline. Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt work well together, but Dominique Fishback is the real winner, delivering a performance that demands your attention and proves valuable throughout the entire film. Scott Speer's Endless is an occasionally above average romantic drama, lifted up by reliable and authentic performances from both Alexandra Shipp and Nicholas Hamilton. Unfortunately, the film does very little with its premise, failing to take advantage of its unique approach, instead settling for cliche romance anchored by weightless decisions. Review

Egor Abramenko's Sputnik features impressive special effects and an even better creature design that elevates the film's lacking story. Think Splice with shady Russian government undertones that make way for a film that's more bark than bite. Review

Amy Seimetz's She Dies Tomorrow is a timely and effective psychological thriller that blends together the uncertainty of death and our own mortality with the concept of spreading fear and panic. It's probably not the best movie to watch during a virus pandemic, but damn if it doesn't send chills up your spine. Review

Brandon Trost's An American Pickle is obvious social commentary on America's cancel culture, anchored by a weirdly straight-faced Seth Rogen playing double-role duties. The film isn't all that funny, nor is it eye-opening in its not-so-subtle jabs at the world's current state. This is far from premium exclusive HBO Max content. Review

The Tax Collector follows director David Ayer's usual formula for a gritty street drama, including a shoddy script and a cliche story, but the film is anchored by a magnetizing supporting performance by Shia LaBeouf and Ayer's ability to shoot crisp action through way of ultra-violence and gritty, albeit heightened realism. Rob Savage's Host is a timely COVID-19 quarantine thriller that blends together both technology and time to make for an effective horror film that's full of jump-scares and impressive technical feats as it tells its entire story in under an hour. Review

Dave Franco shows that he's more than capable as a writer/director with The Rental, capturing tension and thrills in a compact slice of modern cinema. Some might leave this film wanting a bit more and that's totally acceptable, but as a straight-up horror flick, The Rental gets by on its performances and simple premise. Review

Tony Dean Smith's Volition is a mind-bending sci-fi thriller that's part The Butterfly Effect and part Time Crimes. Its ability to intertwine multiple timelines without losing grasp on the overall story at large is impressive, making for next-level sci-fi for those unafraid to venture deeper down the rabbit hole. The Old Guard is exactly the type of R-rated summer fun that is needed to be consumed, mixing an interesting concept with decent action and adventure. The film struggles to feel anything but one-note at times, yet I can't stop hoping for a sequel. It's a mixed bag of effective fun and familiar thrills. Review

Rod Lurie's The Outpost is a no-nonsense film, capturing the brutal intensity of warfare in a way that feels terrifying, yet authentic. Lurie's interest in accuracy and depicting the bravery of the real-life soldiers the film is based on makes for an engaging thematic experience that demands your attention. Review

Kenneth Branagh's Artemis Fowl is a trash heap collection of unforgettable moments strung together by wooden performances across the board. There is a reason Disney ditched this film's theatrical release and opted for the quiet Disney+ approach. Review

The King of Staten Island succeeds because of its star and co-writer Pete Davidson. The SNL regular elevates the film because of its true-life roots and his ability to bring a level of authenticity to the character. Otherwise, Staten Island feels very much like the rest of director Judd Apatow's recent output -- it's too long and requires much patience. Review

Sam Hargrave’s Extraction is a serviceable action picture that features occasional bright spots, including an extended one-take action sequence that is impressive on a technical level, as well as a reliable performance from Chris Hemsworth, but the film’s simplistic plot and predictable second half prevents it from overcoming its genre stereotypes. Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey is an explorative look inside the mind of one of DC Comics' most outlandish characters Harley Quinn, played perfectly by Margot Robbie. Birds of Prey is creative and off-the-walls fun in ways that comic book movies usually aren't. The characters take the center stage, while the action and story follow suit to make for one of DC's more memorable adaptations in recent memory. Review
