It’s a nice enough little Irish thriller and worth your time. But it never jumped out at me as a must watch the way that Swing Bout did. Review
This is a little gem of a movie with a great cast, clever direction and an interesting plot. Review
This is a really engrossing true-life-crime documentary that is both a fascinating historical record and also a great tribute to Charlie Bird, who sadly died of MND in March of this year. Review
This documentary is never less than interesting throughout and there is one particular moment of SUCH PURE JOY in this documentary that you can’t help but be uplifted by it. Review
It’s difficult to dislike this film. But I can’t deny that it’s a disappointment after the glories of the first two films. Review
A really solidly well-made and thoughtful film. Slow-burn and incredibly well-acted with Cillian Murphy giving yet another award-worthy performance. Review
This is a cracking little courtroom drama and my favourite Eastwood-directed flick for a long time. Highly recommended. Review
As nearly always seems to be the case, A24 delivers another interesting movie. But I think Heretic would barely have reached 3 stars without the phenomenal charm and presence of Hugh Grant in the lead role. Review
It is delivered in such an artsy way that I found it frustrating and dull. In my opinion, it would have been much better to have made a 90 minute film focused on just Feier’s story. Review
As a first directorial effort from Kendrick, it’s a decent film without really setting my world on fire. Review
Just when you think all the clever ideas have been mined, along comes a movie that is refreshingly different. This is a really clever film. Your heart really does go out to people suffering from any serious facial disfigurement, especially those with neurofibromatosis. Review
It’s not serious. It’s not scary. It’s not funny. It’s just MEH. Review
I wasn’t expecting much from this one, but it really exceeded my expectations. One of the best horror films I’ve seen this year. Well recommended, if horror is your thing. Review
This one was a bit of a disappointing miss for me I’m afraid. For me, it’s just not top-Almodóvar. Review
This is a very professional production and one that I would fully expect to join Migration and Inside Out 2 in the Oscars Animated Feature shortlist. Review
Sebastian Stan seems to inhabit Trump at a deeper level such that I ended up really believing I was seeing Trump on the screen. Review
After watching this film I was left with the overwhelming impression that this could be a monster Christmas hit and be one of those ‘traditional’ beloved Yuletide movies that will become a de facto “lovely old Christmas film” for many years in the future. Review
What really makes this movie succeed for me is the crazy amount of chemistry between Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, thanks to them both being insanely good actors. Review
This is a film that really came out of the screen and surprised me, in a good way. Despite seeing the hard lives of these grafters on the very margins of society, the love they have for their families, however dysfunctional, shines through, giving the film a strange feelgood vibe despite everything. Review
Nightbitch has its moments, particularly in reflecting how looking after young children can exert its own special form of mental torture. But I’m not sure it developed those ideas enough to fully work with me. Review
A good discussion starter: a film that makes you seriously think about what data you put online and what apps you use. Review
This is a very different film, striking and memorable. It will certainly not be for everyone, as it is very much ‘out there’ in its storytelling. But in a landscape of same old-same old cookie-cutter horror movies, this is a stunningly different black-comedy offering, with an essence of comic-horror, that will stick in my memory for a long time.
