R is iets fundamenteel mis met Cats. De keuze om de acteurs via digitale trucage in hun kattenkostuum te hijsen levert zo'n onprettige beelden op dat zelfs de beste muziek je aandacht niet kan opeisen. Nou goldt dat ook al voor de gelijknamige musical waar de film op gebaseerd is, maar die kwam daar nog mee weg door het live ten gehore brengen van de zang in combinatie met een strakke choreografie.
