A feast for the eyes and the dreams...

If you can accept the slow-as-molasses pace early on, The Beguiled is a truly beguiling piece of artistically-crafted entertainment.

The film’s not entirely successful but it’s so wildly unusual that it has to be experienced.

The pacing is faultless, the evocation of the horror of war is truly disturbing despite the lack of overt Saving Private Ryan-style gore.

I couldn’t stand the film and find it hard to recommend unless you’re a completist.

The performances are outstanding all round.

Still a must inclusion on any horror fan’s bucket list.

A surreal one-of-a-kind masterpiece...

The dullest and tattiest of the three movies, despite having been made on a considerably higher budget.

This one improves on The 7th Voyage in some aspects, but is slightly weaker in others.

The acting is somewhat hammy, but the plot is well-constructed and the characters’ actions have believable consequences.

The film really doesn’t stand up unless discussed in context with the fascinating surrounding back story.

The story is a little too conservative and predictable. Nonetheless, the whole film’s so much fun that it’s not a big problem.

There’s a real sense of heart and characters we can root for in all of this...

Unfortunately, the concept doesn’t really successfully sustain itself...

A fine small movie, and one that takes a truly feminine route of emotional catharsis over a past wrong...

Provides a unique feel that makes it something rather more than a mere quirky diversion.

Isn’t anything particularly innovative, but it is still enjoyable in its own dark way.

Has such an endlessly creative sense of fun that it generates a tidal wave of goodwill...

Effortlessly enjoyable if you just go with its distinctive flow and let its dream journal symbolism bury itself into your subconsciousness.
