About Veboli

Veboli is all about easily picking movies you're gonna enjoy watching. We do that by looking at what you thought of the movies you've already watched, from the ones you loved to the ones you hated, and giving you our best guess of how much you'll like other movies. Over the years, we've added a bunch of features to help you pick out the perfect movie. Here's an overview.

Rating and reviewing movies

Everyone starts by rating movies on a scale from 0 to 10. Roughly speaking, 0's are the worst movies, 5 is about neutral, and 10's are the best movies. Anytime you come across a movie you've seen, you can give it a rating by clicking on the star and a popup will appear letting you rate the movie and writing a review if you'd like. This helps other users know what aspects you liked or disliked about the movie. Click on the bar to give your rating. If you want to change your rating, click again on your new rating.

You can quickly rate many movies by either importing your ratings from IMDb, Letterboxd, or MovieMeter or by using the lists of well known movies.

The links to your ratings, importing ratings, and ratings lists can be found under the Ratings dropdown menu.

Lists

When you see a movie listed, you can add it to a list by clicking on the list icon. This will open a popup for that movie that let's you add the movie to one of your lists (like movies you want to watch or any other list you make).

The links to your lists and reviews can be found under the Ratings dropdown menu.

Recommendations

Once you've got at least 20 movies rated (more is better!) we'll start calculating your recommendations. To do this, we look at the ratings of users and movie critics who have a similar taste in movies and movies similar to the ones you've rated.

We express this on a scale from 0 to 10 and put this number in a colored ball to indicate it is a recommendation and not a rating.

Typical recommendation: movie poster and along the bottom: recommendation, add to a list, rate/review, and ignore.

The link to your recommendations can be found under the Recommendations dropdown menu.

Streaming recommendations

This is a new feature! We're linking users' recommendations to what's available on streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and Netflix to make it easier to choose a great movie and to discover the hidden gems that those services have.

The link to your streaming recommendations can be found under the Recommendations dropdown menu.

Streaming recommendations are currently available for Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We're expanding this to new countries the coming months!

Cinema recommendations

We've linked users recommendations to what's showing in the cinemas! Easily choose a great movie to go see at your local movie theater. We've even included the show times and links to buy tickets.

Cinema recommendation also have the showtimes at your favorite movie theaters below.

The link to your cinema recommendations can be found under the Recommendations dropdown menu.

Cinema recommendations are currently available for Netherlands. We'll be expanding on this feature later!

Recommendations with friends

Watching movies together is great, but choosing one everyone will enjoy can be a challenge. We'll calculate recommendations for you and your friends. Select up to five friends and we'll calculate which movies you'll all enjoy. We'll only show the movies everyone is recommended with at least a 6 and the number displayed is the average recommendation for everyone.

The link to your recommendations with friends can be found under the Recommendations dropdown menu.

Filters

If you're looking for something specific to watch, there are a lot of filters at your disposal. These are found under "Options" on the ratings, recommendations, and top movie pages. You can limit you your results by genre, keywords, year, and country.

For recommendations you can also limit the results by recommendation (for example, only those recommended 7 or higher), certainty, and include an explanation of why the movie is recommended to you. Certainty is helpful if you want to limit the recommendations to only ones were sure about or the opposite if you're feeling adventurous.

For ratings you can also limit the results by rating (for example, only those you gave a 4 or lower) and you can order the results by rating date (standard), first rating date, rating, or year.

Similar movies

Another great way to discover movies you'll enjoy is similar movies. We calculate the similarity between movies based on ratings, genre, keywords, actors, directors, and year. If you're looking for something like a favorite movie, check out this feature.

The link to similar movies can be found under the Similar dropdown menu, or under the Recommendations dropdown menu if you're on a small screen.

Similar critics

We also calculate how similar your taste in movies is to our collaborating movie critics to connect you to the reviews that'll most help you make your movie selection.

Critics with a similarity 80 or higher are considered similar, the higher the better. In common is the number of movies you have both watched and rated.

The link to your similar critics can be found under the Similar dropdown menu, or under the Recommendations dropdown menu if you're on a small screen.

Similar users

We also calculate your similarity to all other users. You can see how similar you are to your friends, figure out which genres to watch together or avoid, and looking at the ratings of similar users gives a good indication for what you can expect from a movie.

The link to your similar users can be found under the Similar dropdown menu, or under the Recommendations dropdown menu if you're on a small screen.

Best, worst, most popular

Just want to see the best, worst, or most popular movies? We've got you covered. You can also check out the best movies last year or the worst science fiction movies.

The links to the best, worst, and most popular movies can be found under the Top dropdown menu.

Agreement and disagreement

Veboli collaborates with many movie critics and has many users. Sometimes the critics and the users agree, sometimes they don't. Just a fun little look into which movies they agree and disagree on.

There was a large amount of disagreement on Your name. Users thought it was only slightly good whereas movie critics were very enthousiastic.

The links to agreement, disagreement, more liked by users, more liked by critics can be found under the Top dropdown menu.
