A really solid and entertaining yarn, beautifully shot and well paced. Bits of it you have to take with a large grain of salt, including the finale! But this is definitely a recommended watch. Review

This type of film has been done much better before, for example by the surprisingly fun M3gan from last year and Ex Machina from 2015. Review

Although morally dubious, this documentary is a stunning piece of work and both thrilling and horrifying. Review

I have no baggage associated with the brand on this one, so I’ve watched this as a simply horror/thriller. And I thought it was fine, without being anything special. Review

I really enjoyed this one. Zoë Kravitz should be justly proud of it. It’s a different sort of film (Lord be praised!). Review

I really wasn’t expecting too much from this film, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. It undoubtedly has some rough edges, and the odd bit of amateurish acting to boot, but you could do far worse than give this a try when it appears on your screens in October. Review

An innovative horror that I thought was a whole lot better than the recent Longlegs. Review

It’s not perfect (and it’s certainly not bloody Shakespeare) but if you like your gory action space operas then this one is well worth catching on the big screen. Review

A rom/dram that feels really well made and entertained me throughout. It succeeds in not making the main protagonist an unredeemable villain which feels the right sort of approach while not ducking any of the issues. Review

A mystery/thriller can only really thrill if it stays the right side of reasonable. This one had such absurd plotting that it lost all credibility with me. Review

But this was a really fun watch for me and it looked like all the kids had a great time too. So this comes with a strong recommendation for parents to fill some of the summer holiday void with a trip to the cinema. Review

This is an uneven comedy/drama that fires on some cylinders but not others. Review

A stone cold classic that has weathered well. Unlike many 80’s films, there is nothing non-PC that makes you go “ooh, really”! Review

Many of these gags land and are funny. Others fall like a dead-weight to the floor. But either way you feel exhausted as smoke rises from the gag-o-meter and it then gives up and explodes. Review

For all of its dubious sexism, this is still a classic movie. It was wonderful to see it again on the big screen and I had so much fun doing so. Review

Given the strong positive vibes from some reviewers of this one, I perhaps went in with my hopes a little too elevated. But in the end I came away disappointed. Review

Chuck Chuck Baby should be added to the list of films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually that are popularly regarded as great, classic feel-good British movies. Review

As a rom-com set against a momentus moment in human history, it entertained me to a degree and, I think, would particularly entertain viewers of a similar crinkly age. Review

It’s good gory fun but, for me, it didn’t quite reach the heights of Pearl which I enjoyed more. Review

It’s a cracking little motion picture, typical of the sort of tight and well-executed thrillers that they used to make in the 70’s and which there are not enough equivalents of today. Review

The usher on the way out asked if I’d enjoyed it. Rather like my recent viewing of The Beast, I didn’t have a clear answer for him. But with retrospect, yes, I really think I did. Review
