Happy new year! Last year, when writing about the best movies of 2022 I wrote 'as a new year dawns' which might have an overly dramatic ring to it for a blogpost about the best and worst movies of the year. Nonetheless, it's a fun yearly tradition to look back on the previous year in film.

Looking for a good movie to see? Consider one of the best movies of 2023, which are currently Past Lives, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, Passages, Godzilla Minus One, Oppenheimer, and The Killer.

In the review of 2022 I had already watched five of the best movies of 2022. This year I've already seen seven of the best movies, with only Passages getting past me. Hopefully it's one of the movies that briefly returns to the theaters so I can see it on the big screen. Unsurprisingly, I think this is a pretty solid list of movies with two of my favorite movies of the past year starting off the list. The only movie that I think is missing is Barbie, which is the third of my favorite movies of 2023 and almost made the list. While it wasn't everyone's favorite, I can take solace in the fact that it's currently the most rated movie of 2023 on the site.

Looking for a bad movie to see (also fun sometimes 😉)? Consider one of the worst movies of 2023, which are currently Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Mafia Mamma, Hypnotic, Expend4bles, Love Again, Maybe I Do, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Meg 2: The Trench.

In 2022, I managed to avoid all of the worst movies of the year. This year I again had the good insight and luck to avoid the worst of the worst!
