Fernanda Torres is deservedly nominated for the Best Leading Actress Oscar. There is so much grit and determination in her performance that it really deserves recognition. Review
A real tragi-comedy this will have you both laughing and weeping in equal measure. Review
A sci-fi classic that I can watch over and over again without it getting boring. Pure class. Review
It’s still a gentle and unchallenging watch, but it feels so much more forced and artificial than last time. A disappointment. Review
Even though I’m not a mad-fan of stop-motion animation, this was high class entertainment from Aardman. Review
A really fun time at the movies, Companion ticks all the boxes for comedy and thriller (with a tad of horror) mixed together. Review
What shines through in Dawn Porter’s well structured documentary is just what a talent Vandross had. Review
A solid and entertaining film for kids that adults can also enjoy to a certain degree. Review
It is truly, truly dreadful. I’d suggest that this is a flight that you seriously want to miss. Review
For me, it was periodically a bit spooky, pleasantly so, but not remotely scary. But, compared to all of the cookie-cutter horror films from last year that populated my Worst Films of the Year list this was a cut above them in terms of entertainment value. Review
The Brutalist is an extremely interesting movie. I can see it being the topic of debate in film studies classes for years to come. Having seen it twice, I really enjoyed it. It’s an epic film with an epic scope and deserves respect. Review
It’s certainly not as bad as I feared and had some good moments of tension. A relatively fun Saturday night popcorn movie. Review
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill story of a rock legend and James Mangold has done a really good job with the material. Anchored by an awards-worthy performance by Timothée Chalomet, it’s well worth your attention, particularly if you are a Dylan fan. Review
A classic thriller that feels just about perfect in every respect. Fincher’s film may be (nearly!) 30 years old, but it feels as fresh as if it was made yesterday. Review
Sadly, this, for me, is not a good example of the genre. It asked some interesting questions but without really giving satisfactory answers. Review
This is a solidly-made film, but I didn’t find it hugely engaging. Review
As a comedy, I didn’t find it hilariously funny. As a drama, I didn’t find it dramatically dramatic. Review
My main criticism of the film is that, really by necessity given the breadth of its ambition, the story is quite shallow. Review
A gloriously anarchic tribute to a bygone era of silent films. Review
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this, but found it to be hugely entertaining and ultimately very moving. A nice surprise and recommended, particular for fans of Robbie’s music. Review
A splendidly atmospheric version of a classic horror tale that is a delight to experience. Review
A Disney offering that has its moments but, for me, is fundamentally flawed. A case of trying too hard to tick off a checklist of gotta includes. Review
It’s a lovely bit of work and well worth your time in seeing. Mind you, I’m not sure yet how you would get to see this, but hopefully it will be available through some online outlet in the near future. Review
