It’s cute and funny for the most part, but I Want You Back doesn’t transcend the genre nor offer anything new to make it stand out from the pack. Review

The lavish costumes and beautiful set pieces are nice to look at, but all the razzle dazzle can’t conceal a slapdash direction, a far cry from Branagh’s marvelous work of his personal drama Belfast. Review

The film can be slow at times but I was invested in the protagonist’s journey the entire time, I also appreciate the hopeful ending that feels organic instead of fantastical. Review

I’m impressed with Nikole Beckwith‘s sophomore feature that subverts the rom-com genre. The dialog is witty and flows naturally, and the story has a lot of emotional depth. Review

I can’t say the movie is enjoyable to watch and at the end I was questioning what the whole point was. Still, I think it’s a remarkable feature debut from Lauren Hadaway... Review

It’s not a perfect movie but as an immigrant, there’s plenty here to relate to and reflect on so it’s well worth a watch. Nana Mensah is so talented as the writer/director AND star, I’m curious to see what else she’ll do in the future! Review

Well, the premise is pretty funny and of course the idea of matchmaking is inherently amusing. Review

George MacKay is quite good here and able to hold his own against veteran actor Jeremy Irons as Chamberlain. I’m also impressed with German actor Jannis Niewöhner here. Review

Well it was promising at first but it’s impossible to relate to any of the characters and the ending was so meh! Review

Despite the ensemble cast filled with some of the funniest comediennes, there are so few funny moments here, mostly cringe-worthy ones actually. Review

Drive My Car is a thought-provoking ride that’s enthralling in its quiet intensity. There’s a lot of unpack here that leaves me ruminating even days after I watched it. Review

I enjoyed the film despite my qualms about Miranda’s directing style. The inherently theatrical approach and editing style gets in the way a bit of the story, so tick, tick…BOOM! is far from being my favorite musicals. Still, I’m glad I saw it and Garfield’s astounding performance alone made this well worth a watch. Review

T’s an engaging directorial debut that balances heavy themes with a kid’s innocence and wide-eyed wonder. At a time where superhero movies dominate cinematic content, it’s refreshing to see an ordinary boy being the hero of his own story. Review

Michael Sarnoski is a filmmaker to watch in his feature directorial debut. I like his story telling style that takes its time in the way it reveals the character’s journey, and the payoff in the end is an emotional one. Review
