Teen Titans Go! To the Movies any good? Well, yes. It’s funny. This is a movie aimed at 20something fans of Teen Titans Go! and parents who will be forced to brings kids to the cinema on a Saturday morning. Is it good in terms of plot? Goodness no. Review
Solo does something that Rogue One got bogged down by; telling its own story, not just providing a prelude to another. Review
The Leisure Seeker sits in an odd place, having the appearance of a heartwarming, life-affirming tale about the freedoms available to the older people, and yet it’s ultimately about mortality, and how we approach it. And the centre of the movie are two great actors who you can watch ramble incoherently or tell stories that don’t seem to end, and still want to see more of them. Review
Pacing-wise it is a little slow, and sometimes it can be hard to watch precocious children boast about their skill, yet we see each person interviewed revealing their aspirations and motivations. Proof that documentaries can be about something some would consider insignificant, and yet heartwarming. Review
You feel a thriller in your chest, the anticipation building the tension, but a good horror, you feel in the pit of your stomach. and A Quiet Place does make you fear the sound of silence. Review
Love, Simon is no Call Me By Your Name, nor does it aim to be; it is a Young Adult novel turned into a Romantic Comedy, and the focus of affection just happens to be same-sex. While there’s issues with the delivery, the core message is strong; being gay doesn’t change who you are. Review
Blockers is a fun comedy, and better than the trailers might lend you to believe. By keeping it relatively grounded bar a few moments, the film never loses its way from the key joke being set up: parents will always burst in at exactly the inopportune moment. Review
For a dumb popcorn movie, it’s okay, but nestled between Black Panther and the impending Avengers: Infinity War, even 300-foot tall robots won’t be enough to hold your attention for long. Review
Probably one of his better movies in recent decades, given the stylish cinematography and some decent performances, but it says a lot that Allen has to plumb his youth, much like Radio Days, for inspiration and nostalgia. Review
Game Night‘s biggest weakness that it ignores one of the things that defines a game – the rules. And like any game where the rules change without rhyme or reason, it’s hard to know what’s going on or really care. Review
But for all it’s flaws, Starfleet is light-years ahead of what was airing on children’s television in the early 1980s. It had a single story told over multiple episodes, genuine peril to the characters, and the kind of space battles that just weren’t on kids TV shows or even some adult shows at the time. Review
But like any journey, it’s not the destination, but how you got there. Especially if your travelling music is this awesome. Review
There’s about four minutes, twenty seconds of worthwhile scenes in the whole film and the rest is just adds in disguise. Review
Black Panther is a good movie, and a solid opening to the inevitable trilogy we can expect of a Marvel property. Review
This is a film that unabashedly reminds us that mankind could not only inflict this madness upon their enemies, but upon their own soldiers. Review
Perhaps it’s a movie that the fans of the Maze Runner series will like, but if you don’t know the series, you’ll spend the first half hour trying to catch up, then just wait for some more explosions and less pouting. Review
This is Gerwig’s personal life, broken bones and all, and from pain comes great art. Review
Marshall is a stylish drama that had the potential to be so much more. Instead of a nuanced story interweaving race, religion and gender and how they are affected by the law, it reduces Marshall to a superhero and Friedman to his sidekick. Review
It is undeniably powerful, but in many ways, its bluntness subtracts from its point. The difficulty in watching Property of the State is not the message, but the medium. Review
Call Me By Your Name is ambivalent, not nostalgic; some things were bad and should not be glossed over, as some characters choose to do in the film. But Elio, as our lens into this world, comes to terms with himself as the world itself is changing. Call Me By Your Name is beautiful, time-consuming and thought-provoking. Review
LEGO bricks are great toys because you can do almost anything with them, but without imagination, they are just that, a stack of bricks, and The LEGO Ninjago Movie is decidedly lacking in imagination. Review
At times clever funny, other times silly funny, and at other times bleakly tragic. It’s not often you can get a movie about political manoeuvring and mass executions that’s also full of clever jokes and pratfalls, but Iannucci has worked out how to balance the comedy and pathos beautifully. Review
The movie glosses over a lot, with some random plot jumps, and frames the racism of the era as “Bad Brits, lovable Indian” in very simple terms. But it is entertaining and has more than enough laughs to make it worth a watch... Review
For all its silliness, it has a punch; much as Fumiya’s life transformation is positive, Fukuhara’s is negative, and the ending is not telegraphed. Review
