Opties
Played with quiet brilliance by Katlein, Simi makes for an engaging lead, the sort of protagonist we just don’t see in horror movies. Recensie
Like Carpenter, Keating makes great use of the empty space of his widescreen frame, keeping us constantly on edge looking for figures in the shadows and mist. Recensie
The film contains some stellar performances from its ensemble cast. In its best moments it's a reminder of a time when Hollywood would commit to telling such stories. But that ensemble is also the film's biggest stumbling block, as the story moves back and forth between characters so often that we never really get to know who these people are, simply what they represent. Recensie
As the film progresses it becomes less clear whether Okuna is really examining America's self-centred place in the world, as her movie evolves into a more run of the mill stalking thriller. Recensie
Hardy aside, the film simply doesn't work. There's barely a narrative here, with some details teased only to never be elaborated upon. Recensie
Hadžihalilović began her career as a collaborator of Gaspar Noe, a filmmaker often accused of being nothing more than a shock merchant. That's an accusation that certainly can't be leveled at Hadžihalilović, whose films could honestly use a shock or two to keep us awake. Recensie
While initially intriguing, Men soon reveals itself as a shallow attempt to replicate the unique atmosphere of 1970s folky gems like Robin Redbreast, Images and Penda's Fen. Recensie
While Castellari is a great action director, I'm not convinced that he's a great director. His movies really lag in between the shootouts and car chases, and he struggles to get his actors to make anything out of the one-dimensional characters his scripts usually lumber them with. Recensie
Whether it's a case of being lost in translation, the dialogue is particularly limp, with characters spelling out the messy plot through their various arguments. If you're after over the top violence you'll be satisfied however. Recensie
I think this is how Elvis fans want to remember their idol, as a man with a voice that had to be heard, but Luhrmann is only interested in the surface spangles. Recensie
As he has done so often, Hill takes a b-movie plot and elevates it with A-plus direction and actors that fit squarely into their character templates while adding humanity, or in several cases here, inhumanity. Recensie
Cinematographer Scott McClellan shines his lights into the creases in Czerny's troubled brow like a spelunker finding his way through a dark cave, searching for the source of his unspoken psychological torment. Even the most committed atheist will be convinced that this is a man living in mortal fear of God, or something else. Recensie
Most of the cast don’t seem to be taking this seriously either, but they are at least having more fun than the audience. Recensie
A movie that looks far more polished than its relatively minor budget should allow. King devotees should look out for several references to his work peppered throughout. Recensie
But thanks to the performances of Lowden and Capaldi, Davies makes it clear that while Sassoon may be laughing on the outside, he's burdened with an eternally tortured soul. Recensie
We've seen both The Innocents' story and its stereotypes before, but it's undeniably well made. Given its budget, the visual effects are so impressively realistic that they might easily be overlooked. Recensie
The violence is so grim and mean-spirited (though dogged by the terrible CG) that by the end you may be rooting for the sinister government forces who seem correct here in viewing Charlie as a threat. Chances are you won't make it to the end however, as the movie is so dull you'll probably have nodded off to the dead zone by the hour mark. Recensie
Close to 40 years may have passed since the original, but Top Gun: Maverick is content to be a sequel in the traditional sense, picking up the story rather than rehashing it for a new generation. Recensie
It's testament to Yeoh's talent that despite her glamorous reputation, she becomes a relatable avatar for everyone's mum. Every now and then the Daniels will pause the onslaught of quirkiness to put Yeoh centre stage, and she delivers a remarkably moving performance that will have everyone in the audience wondering if their own mother is living the life she really wants. Recensie
The Sadness's biggest problem is that it doesn't give us anyone to care about. Neither Kay nor Jim are anything other than cardboard cut-out protagonists. Recensie
The actors do their best, God love them. Recensie
What keeps Wild Men afloat are the various comic vignettes involving our heroes and their pursuers. Most of the laughs come courtesy of Bjorn Sundquist as the local aging Sheriff, who pours disdain on the various lifestyles he encounters and fails to comprehend. Recensie
With its pedestrian pacing and an over-reliance on characters explaining the plot, The Twin never quite manages to make anything exciting from its various borrowed ingredients. Despite a fantastic setting, Mustonen rarely builds much in the way of atmosphere. Recensie
