Out Stealing Horses can’t quite make the current-day footage ache or resonate quite so clearly. The events adult Trond deals with feel artificial, a forced structure. But that doesn’t rob the film of its magic. Read more

Overall, Out Stealing Horses is an effective and moving drama. However, I did struggle to follow the numerous characters and twists, and to work out the subtle cultural differences between Sweden and Norway. Read more
