At times a drug comedy, at others a gruesome nature attacks horror/thriller, and occasionally a Carpenter-esque scored slasher starring a baloo on blow, this thing is quite the trip. Read more

A good communal watch, I went with three other family members and we roared in laughter throughout. Like a good teen slasher, it’s fun to see a bunch of random, unlikeable individuals exit (pursued by a bear!) It’s not bloody Shakespeare, but it was good for a laugh. Read more

Not every animal lover is going to appreciate the comedy in this film, FYI. An enormous black bear is high out of her mind for 90 minutes and, in that deranged state, does some funny things but mostly tears humans to pieces to the delight of the crowd. If this doesn’t sound entertaining to you, maybe don’t see Cocaine Bear. Read more

Cocaine Bear is deeply disjointed, but at times can be buckets of fun. Not essential viewing by any stretch of the imagination, but inoffensive fun if you stumble across it. Read more

Banks may be guilty of a few narrative missteps, but she's delivered on her movie's outrageous promise. She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie. Read more

For what its worth, there are shots in here that look fantastic and the visual effects are sufficient for what the film needs of them. As far as bears and cocaine go, though, that combination alone is not enough to hang your would-be cult film on. Especially if you are in on the joke and it’s the only cohesive joke you have. An apt soundtrack and ‘80s horror movie musical cues are the high point, along with jumpy scares and some hilariously brutal bear butchery, but the poor pacing and the excess of human fodder insist that there isn’t enough of a plot to stretch this ordeal out to feature length. Read more

Read more

Read more

Read more
