If the French filmmaker's work generally leaves you bemused, you should probably sit this one out. If you're completely unfamiliar with Dupieux, this might be a good place to start, as it will clue you into his off-kilter sensibilities without testing your patience too heavily. Review

Though we know Yohan and Marceau will ultimately fail in their quest to find Clara's killer, we're sucked into their investigation to such a degree that we forget this detail. Review

Along with some striking set-pieces like the opening foot chase and the shanty town raid, the film features scenes of men bickering and debating in stuffy rooms that are equally thrilling. Review

The best chapter of the series is the second one, the one with a sense of humour. Review

The Chilean landscape is beautifully photographed and certainly makes the point that it deserves preserving, but I just wish the film found a more involving way of getting that notion across. Review

In terms of wit and inventiveness, Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves has a lot going for it. Sadly, there's one issue it can't surmount, and that's modern Hollywood's insistence on bloated running times. Review

Black Metal acolytes may appreciate a movie portraying them in a positive light, but with its lack of thrills, Leave is more Easy Listening than Hard Rock. Review

But while there are laughs throughout, some of an uncomfortable variety, I Used to Be Funny never loses sight of the tragedy at its core. Review

There are no real laugh out loud moments however, and we're left to wonder how much more successful the comedy side of Appendage might have been had Zlokovic retained the services of Sennott and Roberts. Review

Sister & Sister just plonks us in the middle of a group of very nice kids and hopes we'll be happy to hang out with them. That would be fine, but like most real life teenagers, they're just not very interesting unless you're part of their group. It's a shame because there are occasional glimpses of the involving drama this might have been... Review

Driver and Goldblatt have some nice chemistry, and the latter is particularly adept at conveying a lot of emotion without words. Their efforts to polish a turd just leave them covered in shit however, and I suspect both actors will be keen to wash the stench of this production off their respective CVs. Once again Hollywood has done the impossible and made dinosaurs boring. Review

For a first-timer, Mar's work here is remarkable... Review

The killings are a little more sadistic here, but none of them are remotely inventive. Knife go in, knife come out, knife go back in. That's yer lot. Review

Director Sophie Jarvis poses the question of what if Erin Brockovich wasn't smart, sassy and sexy, but rather a socially awkward introvert who struggles to hold a simple conversation with another human, let alone take on a company. The answer is a uniquely rewarding spin on the environmental thriller sub-genre. Review

By that point it's clear that taking down a memorial isn't enough to allow Paris to move on from its recent past, but it's telling that the film closes on an image of romance. Review
