Nia DaCosta's Candyman (2021) is meticulously shot, with each frame feeling like an elaborate attempt to make you squirm in your seat and ultimately feel uncomfortable as her retelling of the classic character feels updated and modern, yet true to its folktale roots. This version of Candyman is surely going to give you nightmares and have you leaving the theater with more on your mind than most mainstream horror flicks. Read more

Met deze remake/reboot/sequel wilde de maker een bredere boodschap uitdragen en hoe sterk dat ook is leidt het af van het feit dat Candyman ook gewoon een spannende en enge horrorfilm moet zijn. Candyman is onderhoudend en er wordt goed in geacteerd. Daarbij is de vormgeving sterk en vloeit erg genoeg bloed het enige jammere eng wil het niet worden en dat was in het origineel toch echt wel anders. Read more
