Movie reviews of Bob Mann

Even though it’s a pleasant, great to look at, naturalistic movie about relationships, it’s not one that really moved my meter in terms of ‘feelings’. Not a film I will remember in a few weeks aside from the great central performance by Lily Collias, who could be a big future star. Review

This film deserves great praise for being both intriguing and well-delivered by Babak Anvari. Coming in at only 80 minutes and presumably having a very low budget, it is a welcome addition to this month’s cinema releases. Review

There is a good 90-minute film in here. ‘Simplify the cast somewhat and trim 30 minutes off the run-time and try again’ would be my message to the filmmakers. Review

This film was an excellent watch and one that I would highly recommend. If you liked Notting Hill, American Beauty or Ted (minus the crude jokes) then you will probably warm to this one. The characters were well written and complex. Review

It’s loud, frenetic and exhausting. But its also a lot of fun: something that the young can really enjoy and the old can, at a minimum, endure! I thought it was very funny and it made for a memorable cinema trip with young Jack. Review

A stone-cold classic about stone-cold killers. It’s a film that’s eminently rewatchable, and yet another delight to see on the big screen again. Review

A film that tonally doesn’t seem to be sure what it’s going for. When it is suspensful and intriguing it is quite good, but then it screws the landing. It remains quite a fun popcorn movie though. Review

I’m always desperate to see something different at the cinema and in that regard Ryan Coogler certainly delivered. It’s not perfect in my view. But Sinners is one of the most innovative films of the year so far and a rollicking good watch. Review
