Joel Coen’s film was a whole lot more entertaining than I expected it to be. Review

It’s far from being a relaxing watch. In fact it’s almost an edge of the seat thrill-ride, but I have to thoroughly recommend it. Review

Drama seldom gets more complex and visceral as this. Joanna Scanlan really deserves the Best Actress Oscar for this. Review

Hats off to Rebecca Hall for entering the fray on the other side of the camera, and with such a bold and courageous subject-matter. But, I’m afraid, this one wasn’t particularly for me. Review

It’s a phenomenal piece of work. And I have a sneaking suspicion that, despite the current betting odds, this might be a dark horse at the upcoming major awards. Review

I really think that this one might build to the lofty status of “feelgood British classic” with relative ease, joining the likes of Four Weddings and a Funeral; Notting Hill and Paddington 2 as a movie you can reach for when life is getting you down and you need a morale boost. Review

This is a teriffic movie, uplifting and entertaining throughout. This is a movie about empowering young woman to get to the top of their game – literally. Review

A really entertaining Disney cartoon that is almost the animated companion to Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Your kids/grandkids have probably bashed you round the head with this one already, but certainly worth a (quiet) watch on your own if you’ve not caught it. Review

It’s a bladder-testing 3 hour movie that still manages to remain engrossing and at times beautifully poetic. Review

A delightfully quirky and entertaining British movie that should be a “must-see” for older audiences (who made up the majority of the audience at my showing). Very much recommended. Review

Is Ali & Ava a well-made and interestingly shot drama? Yes, I thought it was, and the two central performances by Akhtar and Rushbrook are both strong. Is it one that I would rush to watch again? Nope, can’t say it is. Review

As a movie, it’s mostly harmless. But it’s also bland and unmemorable. We’ve seen this caper done many times before, and better. Review

This is a really mixed bag. As you would expect from Joe Wright, it’s an impressive and artistically beautiful film underpinned by a tremendously moving performance by Peter Dinklage. Review

It actually has some good acting from Bradley, Wilson and (particularly) Halle Berry. But the lines they have to say, and the ridiculous context they have to say them in, makes their po-faced acting all the more hilarious. Review

This movie was clunking along, in my opinion, at around the 2.5 stars level for most of its running time. As Douglas Adams would have put it, it was “mostly harmless”. Its ace-in-the-hole was the bizarre historical event that comprises the finale of the movie: an event that caused something irritating to get in my eye and an unexplained lump develop in my throat. Ask for my list of top-tier British actresses of the day and both Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley would be on it. Throw in Ed Harris and you have an acting masterclass. The movie is great in showcasing their talents. And Maggie Gyllenhaal’s script and direction is nothing if not thought-provoking. Review
