Avatar: The Way Of Water does like the original in pushing the boundaries of possibility when it comes to VFX, but more so it delivers an incredible about face in storytelling; creating a compelling family of characters, and a hero and villain arc that is absolutely engaging. Read more

Avatar: The Way of Water is a fitting title because, in certain ways, it blows the first film out of the water. I’d call it a definite improvement on the first film, which I merely liked. I am in awe of the updated breathtaking visuals, and I was moved by its beautiful focus on our bond to misunderstood creatures from the vast ocean. James Cameron, I see you. Read more

You can hold up Baz Luhrmann’s sparkle, Michael Bay’s bombast, Steven Spielberg’s precision, and Christopher Nolan’s scope, but none of them, and no one else not named, is close to making films at James Cameron’s level of science and engineering. Just when we think we’ve seen everything possible on a silver screen, he blazes new trails that open our eyes and drop our jaws. Read more

Criticism that it is a “rinse and repeat” of the first film are not very fair, in my opinion: the story evolves in a different direction and becomes more personal and relationship based, which is a good thing. And I personally don’t think you can justifiably give an epic movie that looks THIS good on the big screen and deploys such fabulous technical film-making prowess less than 3 stars. Read more

Avatar: The Way Of Water is a more impressive sequel than expected, and even though it's been 13 years, fans can dive back into the world with ease. It's executed in such a way that we're actually excited to see where it goes next, something we weren't sure it would be able to achieve. Read more

While the films visuals are remarkable, the Na’vi characters are beginning to feel overused almost making it difficult to distinguish who anyone is and why we care about them. Read more

A must-see for its technical accomplishments but has very little beneath the surface. The opening of the film impressively establishes a baseline for the Sully family that enhances the notion that they are outsiders when they have to learn the ways of the Metkayina. Read more

The problem is not that he borrows from himself, but that he repeats himself. Scenes replay the same beats again and again. There’s so much wasted narrative space in this three-plus-hour film, and yet voiceover narration explains what that space could have been used to show. Read more

And yet, though the graphics are still astounding, it’s difficult this time around not to realize the repetition; here, the story is far more important, since the sheer spectacle of Pandora and its inhabitants and hostilities no longer pose the luxury of never-before-seen wonderment. Read more

All the rest of it is more of the same in a tiresome film that suffers from an extended duration, repetitive messages, and clichéd dialogues. Read more

The dialogue is truly atrocious, with lines a six-year-old kid would be embarrassed to have come out of the mouths of toy soldiers in his back yard. Read more

Visueel verbluffend, steengoeie acteurs, prachtige scènes in het water, prachtige geregisseerde actiescènes en een mooi verhaal over 'mens' en natuur, hoe de mens alles wil kapot maken uit eigenbelang. Read more

Read more

Read more
